Infamous thief turned Queen’s warrior and recently crowned leader of an empire with a legacy to uphold are thrown together in an unexpected battle for survival. As they are alone in the wilderness, chained together, they are forced to rely on one another and unexpectedly fall in love. But when the danger has passed and their bonds are cut, they are bound by separate duties that make them adversaries, with secrets and motives that threaten the love that blossomed under the stars.

I loved this book, almost immediately, I was enraptured by this medieval fantasy world which is built effortlessly as the plot unfolds. Kazi is your fearless and clever heroine who is hesitant with her trust. Jase is your noble hero, initially arrogant and proud but his generosity, loyalty, and courage are quickly revealed. Their romance is pure and irresistible.
.
Pearsons imagery is subtle and lovely and she gives her characters beautiful speeches that are somewhat unexpected for a YA level novel. The climax was somewhat underwhelming but I’ve quickly realized its all been a buildup for the explosive sequel.
