Razorblade Tears was a wild ride, man. This book was John Wick if John Wick was two homophobic dads-in-law who were seeking revenge for the murder of their gay sons. It was an incredibly explosive story (sometimes literally) and touched on so many topics from racism to homophobia and transphobia, corrupt politicians to hardened criminals, and multi-faceted characters who grew leaps and bounds from page 1 to the final word.

At first, all I could be was angry at these two fathers, Ike and Buddy Lee, who never loved their sons for who they were in life, but vowed to exact revenge on their behalf after death. A child should never have to die in order to be accepted by their parents. As the story grew, so too did both of these characters. I loved seeing their transformation from trash people to something resembling an ally to the LGBTQ+ community (as well as Buddy Lee’s transformation from racist to understanding his privilege as a straight, white male.)

There were twists and turns, ah ha moments and WHAT?!s, violence, thrilling adventures, moments where you hated the characters, moments where you didn’t, moments even when you shed a tear or two for them.

I read this so quickly and highly recommend it. Check trigger warnings before you dive in!
